The Witch-Fiddler takes you on a marvelous journey into a richly textured, Celtic-inspired fantasy world created by author Deborah Bradford. It’s the story of Nemain, a girl of keen intellect, deep spirituality, and a rare gift for playing the fiddle.

Two things have set Nemain apart from the very beginning her hands and her heritage. Born of an unknown Outlander who died during childbirth, Nemain has horribly deformed hands that she must keep covered by gloves. She’s an outcast among the Lowlanders at Briarvale Castle, with few friends besides Monessa, the pretty daughter of the lord of the castle. But as the two young friends grow up together, Nemain’s differences cause her to feel increasingly alone.

When the witch Rhiannon offers to take her on as an apprentice, Nemain finds great joy in the study of Northern healing arts and mystical beliefs—along with deep sorrow. Nemain’s voyage to discover her place in the world brings many adventures and challenges, along with magic, music, and romance.

This book is very well written and edited. You can feel the air the characters are breathing and see the countryside. The main character, Nemain, has decency and character... something that most YA heroines seem to be lacking. :)

I had my 12-yr-old and 15-yr-old daughters read this and they all loved it as well.

PS- I thought I wouldn't cry as much the second time. I was wrong!

The WitchFiddler Deborah Bradford 9781511891783 Books Reviews

Beautifully woven story that is well written. Characters have depth and you find yourself lost in this world. Worth reading.
I loved discovering the new mythology and land. The characters were well developed and it was interesting to see how they interacted with each other. I found the main character Nemain to be inspiring. It is nice to read about a young female heroine with intelligence, self control, and empathy for others. I hope Ms. Bradford continues to write inspirational fun books.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The narrative Ms. Bradford has created is fun to read, but the true strength of this novel is the depth and color of the characters. Getting to know Nemain, the heroine, as she interacts with the wide variety of characters that weave their way in and out of her story is a fantastic way to spend some time.
The beginning was a little slow, but the rest of the book was very enjoyable!
I thought It was a fun, creative, beautiful and inspiring read. I enjoyed it completely and loved the mystic/Celtic milieu. A Curse we all are familiar with yet lesson rarely learned that sometimes the ugly in curses is the power we feed it out of doubt and faith in ourselves.

I recommend this book to any who loves adventure, culture, fun, romance, music, lessons of life, ect..
I really enjoyed this quiet journey through old Ireland. I'm not much into romance but the love triangle (s) were gentle. The Magic was subdued, more herbalist than flashy. This book was a pleasant escape, a nice coming of age without too much aggressive angst or clever, biting sarcasm.
This was excellent! It started a little bit slow. I thought it took too long to build background and get to the inciting incident. But after that I was hooked, sold, in. I think this book was self-published, but there were none of the tell-tale signs. The writing was lovely, the characters were fleshed out, the plot (once it got going) took you on a delightful, satisfying journey. The writer kept all of her promises. I loved it. I'm sure I'll read it again.
